A bit about me

Niel Stewart

A warm welcome to my website and thank you for taking the time to have a little look around.  I’m Niel and I guess you’d like to know a little about me.  Well I’m a husband to Zoe, a father to two gorgeous daughters (yes I’m biased) and a photographer.  I’m a photographer because it’s in my blood.  My love affair with creating images began when I was eight and I borrowed my Dad’s Mamiya film camera (it’s all his fault really). Back in the days of film you really needed to know your stuff, 24 or 36 photos on a roll of 35mm film!  Starting with film gave me a great technical grounding before I switched to digital in 2005.

I’ve photographed extreme sports, editorial, landscapes, commercial but since 2004 I’ve specialised in photographing people in love.  There’s really nothing in the photographic world that compares to it.  To be part of a wedding day, to capture the emotions and tell the story through my images is a real privilege. I love it when shots build on each other to tell the story, not of just any day, of your day and that’s important – everyone is different and I want your photos and your album to be as unique as you are.

I am a qualified Craftsman with the Guild of Wedding Photographers (CGWP) and qualified with the Guild of Professional Photographers (QGPP).  I was the first person in the history of the Guild to qualify in all three areas they cover and have won several awards including joint 3rd in the Guilds Annual Photographer of the Year competition.

When I’m not working I’m pretty much anywhere my daughters are (did I mention they’re gorgeous?), travelling around France or Scotland, reading, listening to music (my second love next to photography) trying to be green (Zoe and I  featured on the second series of BBC2′s It’s Not Easy Being Green) and on rare occasions trying to remember how to play my guitar.
