Winter wedding at the Met Hotel, Leeds

I recently had the pleasure of shooting a Winter wedding for Kate and Adam at the Met Hotel in Leeds.

Winter weddings bring with them a host of lighting challenges which I love. It’s fair to say winter weddings are hard work – but very rewarding.

The Met Hotel is a wonderful backdrop for a wedding – with the wow factor. Here are a few sample images from the day.

Where have all the groups gone?

One thing I see (or don’t see) as I look around the Wedding Photography world is group photos. Is this because today’s bride and groom’s no longer want any group photos? Well that’s not my experience. Perhaps not as many as in years gone by – but most of the people that book me choose on average to have around 10-12 group photos on the day.

So why don’t more photographers showcase their group photos….because they’re hard to do. There are no group photo training courses, so unless you have served your time working with a professional photographer as an assistant / apprentice – chances are there just not that good.

I spent some time chatting with a photographer who wins awards for his group photos – its kind of ‘his thing’, he was telling me he takes between 20 and 40 minutes per group photo to get them ‘just right’.

So is that what I do?

No.

My philosophy is (and always will be) it’s a wedding day not a photoshoot. I work as fast as I can to get the best pictures I can, in the shortest space of time I can. So while my group photos are not perfect they take around 5 minutes a photo.

So here are some examples of the kind of group photos I can take on the day in around 5 minutes a shot.

Bar 315 – Lepton

When Bar 315 at Lepton opened I was the photographer that did the VIP opening night, the photography for the website and brochure and some food photography for them that I featured on my Facebook page. I have to confess I was very excited at the opening of a new venue – and one which had such a great backdrop for wedding photography as well. They even consulted me on the layout of the grounds for photography.

So I was really excited to photograph Afruj and Emma’s wedding at Bar 315 earlier this year. What a great day it was – a little cold but the sun shone, here are some shots from the day.
